Teacher's Evaluation

Comparing summative and formative teacher evaluation.

  • Summative and formative are two categories of teacher evaluation.

  • Experts suggest that the evaluation be done several different times during the evaluation period instead of relying on a single visit to a teacher's classroom.

  • Experts also recommend that in a pre-evaluation conference (administrator and teacher discuss the evaluation process)

  • Summative and formative teacher evaluation are both necessary, but need to be seperate.  Formative evaluation is more likely to lend to the improvement of instruction.
